The Express Entry System

Information about the Express Entry System for the Immigration to Canada. Our experience with the Federal Skilled Worker Program.

Express Entry System - The Basics

Express Entry is a system by which Canada manages immigration requests. It is not a separate category, but something like a framework for the different categories under which one can immigrate. There are three categories or programs under which one can immigrate to Canada:

In addition, there are also independent programs in the individual provinces and territories under which targeted workers are integrated for specific occupational areas. This would be the Provincial Nominee Program.

So the first decision you have to make is under which program you want to post your application.

Express Entry Form

With Express Entry one basically applies to one of the programs/categories mentioned. The criteria relevant for the immigration check and thus necessary for the application are requested in a form. Which criteria are checked or required depends on the program chosen. In general, however, it can be said that the following points, among others, are checked via the form:

  • Demographic facts
  • Work experience
  • Language skills
  • Education

The Express Entry form is free and must be created online. As soon as you have created an Express Entry Accountyou have 60 days to send in the form. The Website of the Canadian Government provides you with all necessary information.

No matter what happens you will always be in the pool..

Based on the information provided in the Express Entry Form, an evaluation is made and one receives a corresponding score. How this evaluation turns out depends on the program under which one applies. In any case, your score will land you in a pool.. From this pool, candidates are then determined at regular intervals who can apply for the permanent residence permit. And as it is with rankings, the pool is emptied from the top. So candidates with the highest scores are invited to the official application first, then the others in descending order.

In addition, candidates are registered with Employment and Social Development Canada's Job Bank. This gives you the opportunity to look around the job market and get in touch with potential employers. The job search via the Job Bank can be started as soon as one is in the candidate pool.

Invitation to Apply (ITA)

The Express Entry system consists of two stages. One is the already mentioned form and the accompanying evaluation and drawing of the candidates. The draw takes place on the basis of the Comprehensive Ranking System takes place. As mentioned above, candidates with the highest scores are first invited to the official application (Invitation to Apply, ITA). This application is the second step of the Express Entry system and requires, among other things, proof of the information provided in the Express Entry form.

As soon as one receives an ITA, one must therefore also send in the original documents, which one initially only had to list informatively in the Express Entry form. This means: proof of studies, proof of work, test results or even job offers, if available.

Throughout the entire process, it is possible that the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will ask for further or missing information. This is done entirely through the Express Entry profile on the IRCC website. There you will receive a new message with the corresponding request and a link to upload missing documents.

Throughout the process, IRCC may request additional or missing information. This is done exclusively via the Express Entry profile on the IRCC website

The processing process should then take a maximum of six months until a final decision is made.

Voraussetzungen im Federal-Skilled-Worker-Programm

The Express Entry form is the digital tool to apply for immigration to Canada under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP). So far so good. Got it. But what is this FSWP? Let's take a look at it.

Skilled Workers meet the following minimum requirements. A Skilled Worker has

  • at least 1 year of continuous work experience in a salaried position
  • in the same profession
  • within the last ten years

vorweisen.

This applies to certain occupational areas and professions. There is a List that shows into which skill types and skill levels the different professions and activities are classified. Accordingly, one must have been consistently employed in one of the valid professions for at least 1 year in the last ten years. In this regard, 1560 hours is considered to be the key figure to be achieved.

Beyond your skills your language competence plays an important role. You have to proof how well you speak English. This can be done by Language tests such as the IELTS-Language-Test.

Education also plays a part. You need either a Canadian degree or a foreign degree that has been recognized by an appropriate body. For this there is a Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), which matches a degree with a Canadian degree.

Money plays an important role. You have to prove that you are financially able to support yourself and your family after arrival in Canada. For two people in a family, we are talking about a required minimum of 15,000 CAD.

The police clearance certificate ensures that one has a clean record and does not fall into the category of "Crime" or "Human Rights Violator". In both cases, you would not be accepted.
